10 Ways To Make Learning More Fun For Children

Traditional ways of learning required a teacher, a chalkboard, a desk, a ruler, pencil, and a textbook. A teacher with a stern, professional posture stood before the room with barely a smile on her face as she taught her class. This was the image seen in many movies and some adults actually had her in their class many years ago. She or he may have conducted a rather boring class, spending a lot of time talking over your head or talking to the chalkboard. The teacher restricted the class to textbook studies only and quizzes and tests every week. Every now and then it was a real treat for students to watch a movie in her class, even if it was boring and the film jumped around on the screen. As for field trips, forget about it, students were lucky if they got to have an additional recess from time to time. Then when test time came, the worksheets seemed to be as old as them. Oftentimes a student, with a raised arm, would say, “I can’t read number 15.” Then other students would nod or murmur in agreement. It would be a long school year in Mr. or Ms. XYZ’s class.

Years ago the Internet didn’t exist so we will just excuse Ms. XYZ for not having readily accessible information that could give her the ideas to stimulate her students. She may have been too busy grading papers or tending to her own family. Whatever her excuse, she has none nowadays. There are plenty of websites, articles, and other ways to make learning fun for children. The following suggestions may help you as a parent, who would like to assist your children or the teacher, stimulate her skills while making life more interesting for her class.

1. When beginning a new subject or topic to teach, why not decorate the class related to a theme. For instance, if you will be teaching about dinosaurs, why not have posters hanging in your classroom about dinosaurs?

2. Provide something fun related to your topic that children could take home to color, solve a puzzle or show off such as stickers or a colorful book that they can keep.

3. Always have an interesting DVD ready to “kick off” a new subject.

4. Set a time during the day, maybe Friday, where the students are required to work on a project together related to the topic. Students could try to piece a puzzle together, watch a video and write or draw what they really like from it, or play a game that will help them remember what you have taught them.

5. You may want a speaker to come in and talk about the subject other than you. Find out from parents if they know someone that would be willing to come to the classroom to speak on the topic you are teaching. Have the speaker bring something with them that will help the students remember his or her visit.

6. Talk with other teachers about what you are doing and maybe they would be willing to help you. They may be interested in getting their class to participate.

7. Research your local community on events that will aid you in your teaching. There may be a “free zoo day” and you just happened to be teaching on animals.

8. Watch out for sales. Sometimes products you may need to accompany your topic can be purchased at a reasonable price.

9. Tell parents both verbally and physically how you can use their input.

10. Visit online forums, blogs or create your own social networking profile to connect with other teachers to exchange ideas.

I'm in my thirties, I had never changed a diaper, and the youngest person in my family was 18 when my daughter was born. Mothering still came quite easily and naturally. Don't stress this — other people's children and your own are very different things.

The difficulty in holding newborns goes away very quickly; you have to figure it out in a hurry and you do.

Never hurt or punish your child. Just say no. IF your going to punish your child do it mentally although don't torture them mentally. You do this by taking stuff that means alot to them like video games, tv, computer whatever. Just don't take away really important things like food and water since that is cruel. And if you have problem with scribblers on walls get the markers that only write on paper that way it will stay on paper and not your walls. I grew up perfectly normal without being punish except for having tv and my books taken away along with drawing and reading when I was being really bad. MY cousins however got beaten and now one can go to the bathroom properly the other needs someone everywhere including the bathroom and the other can't eat right since she is paranoid into thinking anything she does is bad and she will get beaten. [Thats about it.. sorry if this doesn't help or is to vague but I got to go]

Years ago when I was about 16 we got our first video camera. Alone in the house over school holidays I decided to video myself getting off to see what it looked like. It was no great porno movie that was for sure but it was excplicit and showed me going through my whole repetoire, including using my moms Hitachi Magic Wand massager on myself. When I was finished watching the tape back in the home VCR I rewound it and taped over with some TV programme. Later My mother came to see me in my room with the tape in her hand. I had apparently not realised the tape only rewound until the counter got to a specific point and not until all the tape had fully rewound. This ment that several minutes of my play were still on the tape and that was what my mother had just found while looking for a scratch tape to record a programme on. I was shaken to say the least. I was not told off or lectured at but the tone was to be more careful and keep such things private (which was more than fair). To this day I don't know exactly how much I left on the take or if my moth watched it all but one thing that makes me thing she sar a fair bit was the fact she gave me an Hitachi soon after and if she got the idea from me using hers then se saw maybe 30 minutes of my scene. I wish that tape was still around in a way as I'd love to see myself in the not so innocence of youth from my perspective as a 40 something mum.

Today’s exercise enabled us to become acquainted with one another in a very informal setting. This is quite often known as an “ice- breaker”. This particular activity was a fun way to learn about our classmates' backgrounds and personalities. In this exercise we were to find a classmate who fit a specific description on the list given and then he/she was to sign the sheet of paper. Such descriptions included things like “is an only child” or “is left handed”. The exercise was completed by making our way around the classroom and getting a signature from each classmate.
At some point during the exercise, finding other classmates that matched at least one of my remaining descriptions became difficult because many people chose the same description, leaving other students to merely pick one of the left over descriptions. I really enjoyed getting to know my peers. It helped me to find students I had things in common with, therefore forming a few friendships with people in the classroom. Communication was key in today’s exercise even if the communication going on wasn’t always completely verbal.
The Ice breaker was the first of many steps to feeling fully confident with other classmates. Easing in with smaller audiences who you trust will make it easier to speak in front of a more intimidatingly sized group of your peers later. Although many icebreaker activities are focused on helping participants get to know one another, they can also reveal who the class leaders might be, what skills and special abilities students possess, and how well students might work together. These activities are fun ways to learn about the participants' backgrounds and personalities. What is even more valuable than just the social aspect of these exercises, however, is that these icebreakers can help our team create a culture of success.
