Savants are very very rare. A lot of Asperger kids will focus on one subject and excel at it. I can see your point, I really can. But in early education it is important to get kids to expand their interests. I have a child who can tell you anything you want to know about vacuum cleaners, he loves them. He is probably a vacuum cleaner genius. But other kids don't want to play with him when he refuses to discuss anything else. Even though he does love vacuum cleaners he does want friends. So helping him step out of his comfort zone (which is comprised of ...you guessed it probably...vacuum cleaners) and engage in other interests is beneficial not only to his overall well being as a person, but to his developing social skills. No matter how smart you are, you need social skills.

There are a lot of kids which excel in one area, but we still have them study a variety of subjects. We do this to help them develop as well rounded people. Overall academic, emotional and social development require a well rounded curriculum. This holds true at all grade levels including college. Specializing comes in grad school usually. Why should we offer anything less to savants?

How many times did you binge drink during early pregnancy (0-8 weeks)? Once or twice. Before I found out I was pregnant, I would go out every night, and drink a lot. However, I got very tired as soon as my body recognized the pregnancy. I stopped going out when I got tired, which was probably around week 3 of my pregnancy, technically, I was only 1 week.
Did you binge drink at any time between 8-36 weeks and if so, how many times and in which trimester? no
What week/weeks did you binge drink? n/a
Did you take other drugs or medications known to be harmful (including all recreational drugs): no
Did you smoke?: no
What gender is your child? male
How old is your child now? six
Does you child exhibit any of the following behavioural traits: Hyperactivity, easily distractible, high risk-taking, agression, inhibition,
or other? very hyperactive (at home), aggressive (at home)
How is your child achieving academically? has troubles in language arts
Gifted
High achiever
Average
Slightly Below average (perhaps skilled in other ways)
I would say he is below average in language arts, speech and some gross motor skills, but above average in other areas, especially spacial tasks

Does your child have difficulty in any of the following areas: decision making, mathematics, vocabulary, recalling details, visualing things, mental arithematic, puzzles, word games.
Does your child excel in any of these areas? refer to above
If older, has your child attended College/University? n/a
Was your child slow to meet developmental markers i.e learning to talk or walk? has attended speech since he was 3
Was your child early to learn? he can do 300 peice puzzles
Does your child have a diagnosed condition? (such as FAS or ARND Aspergers or Epilepsy). PDD-NOS
Does your child have any physical 'defects' - cleft palate, cleft lip, FAS facial characteristics (flat groove between nose and upper lip, narrow droopy eyes, thin/barely visible upper lip, short flattened nose), limb malformations. no

A child's personality has little to do with successful parenting. I'd say, they both are doing a good job because both children succeed in their areas of interest. Parent's can't push their child to do something they are not good at or completely uninterested in. You can't force a shy and introverted child to be outgoing (trust me, I was the shy introverted child). With child #1, the only issue is with academics. All children need to focus on school and parent's need to help their child in that area. If the child is simply a "C" child, that's OK, but if they are actually failing classes, that's not OK. That's where the parents need to step up and help the child along.
