I recommend you to read Spanish literature from the Golden Century on. Authors before those times, are very difficult to understand, even to Spanish speakers. Cervantes and other authors of the Golden Century are easier (but, be prepared to find some ancient words and grammar nowadays obsolete).
Avoid Baroque authors as Gongora or Calderón, they are very difficult.
Classic and Romantic writers as Larra, Perez Galdos, Zorrilla, are usually considered exemples of good Spanish.

Also, you can try authors as Garcia Lorca, but he used many Andalucian words, that are not common in other Spanish regions.
LAtinoamerican poetry from Ruben Dario, Pablo Neruda, Cesar Vallejo. Short stories from Cortazar, Julio Ramon Ribeiro and Jorge Luis Borges. Novels: Garcia Marquez and Mario Vargas Llosa.

How about you try slowing down? Try and figure out what the words you understand mean. Take a little while to do that and if you still can't figure them out, ask someone or go on.

Here's the thing. The story will still be there when you finish figuring out what the words mean! Don't be in a rush. You'll only enjoy the book more if you understand it!

Hope this helps.

CollegeBoard makes a book called "The Official SAT Study Guide". Its a blue book. They put some information on the test in there. Also, it has 8 practice tests. These tests are made by the same people who will make your test on the actual day, which is why these tests are so helpful. For vocabulary, I definitely recommend the Vocabulary Cartoons books. They seem childish, but I have a terrible memory, yet I remember almost every word in there. They have two version, each with about 300 different words. So if you use them both thats about 600 words. The great thing about these is that they come up with catchy phrases with the words and it really helps you remember the words. They use cartoons with the phrase so you can think of the small drawings as well. It really does help you retain those words. 101 on the PSAT is really bad. Definitely study. I would recommend you take care of other stuff before vocab first since vocab is only 19 questions out of 170 on teh whole test.
